Happy Halloween
Here’s my 2009 Halloween postcard. It’s made from drawings and text I found in a 1940 basal reader (Don’t worry, I photocopied them first, the book is safe) It makes me laugh and I had to post it. I’m still hiding in my bubble wrap, but I’m getting better. I should be back soon. Hope everyone is well. Have a great Halloween.
If you’re not on my postcard list and would like to be send me an e-mail with your mailing address. I’ll be sure to send some silliness your way.
Nights Like These – Photoshop Gone Bad
[Playing around with Photoshop today. The kids are playing golf with MyHusband and my father-in-law and the house is quiet. Here's a couple of the images I found on flickr and decided to messed around with today. Anyone except Anthony know the musician? Hope everyone is doing well.]
It’s nights like these, that make me sleep all day
It’s nights like these, that make you feel so far away
It’s nights like these, when nothing is for sure
It’s nights like these, I don’t want you anymoreYet I’ve only got this one wish
That I was good enough to make you forget
The only boy, who ever broke your heart
Cause nights like these tear me apartIt’s nights like these, the sad songs don’t help
It’s nights like these, your heart’s with someone else
It’s nights like these, I feel like giving up
It’s nights like these, I don’t seem to count for muchYet I’ve only got this one wish
That I was good enough to make you forget
The only boy, who ever broke your heart
Cause nights like these tear me apartThe beer tastes like blood, my mouth is numb
I can’t make the words I need to say
She had a weakness for writers
And I I was never that good at the words anywaysWell I’ve only got this one wish
That I was as good enough to make you forget
The only boy who ever broke your heart
Cause nights like these tear me apart
Drawn by an Educational Anarchist
My Educational Anarchist order from Cafe Press came in the mail today. I was really excited about it. I’ve never had anything I’ve made put on a refrigerator magnet before. It felt good. Don’t you think the mini-button looks nice on my camera bag?
I put the magnets to good use. A picture of our dog Midnight drawn by my youngest Educational Anarchist.
Long Story Short
To make a long story short, I don’t know what this is or what it’s about. I was just messing around with filters and brushes in PhotoShop and this is what happened. I could just delete it but I spent a really long time working on it.
[Update: Does spending a lot of time on something make it more worthwhile? Should you value something just because you've invested a good deal of time trying to make it right? How do you know when it's time to throw in the towel, let go, and move on to something new? It's a gamble. You can be content with working with what you have or scrap it and start new. Either way you lose something.]
The Road Ahead
Today I was sitting at a stoplight and I looked over at the person sitting in the car to my left. It was a very old woman. She was dressed nicely, like old women do, and her hair perfectly styled. I imagined she was wearing just a little too much flowery scented perfume. I wondered if she was feeling happy for her independence or if she wished she had someone to drive for her. She was in the turning lane to go to the mall and I wondered what she was going to buy. Then I started to imagine what she looked like when she was twenty. It seems that some things are not to be imagined.
At that moment, a huge gust of wind came and blew through her window. One side of her hair lifted completely up and stood on the top of her head. It was still in a perfectly formed curl. The loose skin from the left side of her face was pushed under her chin and started to flap in the breeze. I thought, Holy Crap, I didn’t need to see that! I spent the rest of the trip with my eyes firmly focused on the road ahead of me. The literal road was familiar, but the metaphorical road, that one kind of scared me and it didn’t seem as long as it should be.
Extra Credit?
I’m not writing anything for this edition of Thinking Parents – Do you agree that ‘college for all’ is a worthy goal? I am, however, submitting four logos. Maybe I can get some extra credit or something. If you’re a thinking parent and would like to add your opinion, head on over there. It’s a self-serve wiki. Just add your link to the bottom of the page. All thinking parents are welcome. (I think the pages are left open, so if you have something to add to the past topics you can do that too.)

If you’d like a larger logo you can get the 200X200 size here. I have a few more ideas for logos so check back in a few weeks.
